When visiting the Loft, bring an object with you that you live in close proximity to; something you hold on to; something that has value to you, but not necessarily to anyone else.
There are a few technical considerations to keep in mind when choosing an object:
-You must be able to carry the object into the space yourself.
-Objects must remain in the space for the remainder of the exhibition (up to 3 weeks.) All objects will be returned to their owners after the completion of Situate (November 1st 2014.)
DO Bring:
-Objects that have personal meaning to you.
-Objects that have interesting stories or anecdotes associated with them.
-Objects that you can physically carry into the space without too much difficulty.
DO NOT bring:
-Anything that may decompose over the course of the exhibition (up to 3 weeks.)
-Objects with strong or offensive odors (use your judgment on this one!)
-Anything that can breath (flora is ok, but not fauna, Do not bring in your dog…)
-Any object larger than 18” as its smallest dimension.
(The majority of objects will be displayed on shelves running along one wall in the gallery. Shelves are 18” deep. So, a trombone measuring 38” long by 8” wide is ok. An urn that is 24” in diameter, not ok!)
For larger objects, a photograph may be printed and left in its place, but the object itself must be portable enough to be brought into the gallery for our conversation. There will be a limited amount of floor space available to display as well. If you have a particularly cumbersome object that you would like to bring in, email me to discuss the particulars.
