Situate is a participatory project, exploring the relationships between people and place, through things that we hold close to us...
Situate is also the culmination of a Master of Fine Arts degree, in the department of Intermedia, at the University of Regina, SK. Canada, conducted by Amber Phelps Bondaroff.
Situate utilizes the mediums of film, video, drawing, installation, soft sculpture, writing and fun, in a participatory environment...
Over the course of this exhibition, 24 intentional conversations will be conducted with a group of willing and excited participants, on a raised platform called the Loft....
THE LOFT:
The Loft measures approximately 4 ½ x 7 feet, is raised 5 ½ from the floor, and is accessible by a wooden rung ladder. If participants are un-able to climb the ladder for any reason, conversations may alternately take place on ground-level, underneath the loft.
OBJECTS:
When participating in Situate, you will be asked to bring in an object that you live in close proximity to; something you hold on to; something that has value to you, but not necessarily to anyone else. Objects must be left in the space for the remainder of the project. At the completion of the project, objects will be returned to their rightful owners.
Read more about the particulars and parameters on the OBJECTS page.
CONVERSATIONS:
Conversations will last approximately 20-30-minutes in duration, and will revolve around the personal object that you bring with you. Conversations will be audio recorded and photographs will be taken. More information will be provided on a consent form that you will be asked to sign.
Conversations appointments are available:
Tuesdays and Thursday’s between 11am - 2pm.
October 14th, 16th, 21st, 23rd, 28th and 30th.
For more information, and to prepare for your conversation see the CONVERSATIONS page.
To sign up for a conversation appointment visit the SIGN UP page.
COZIES:
After our conversation, a textile based sculptural object or, cozy, will be constructed, in relation to its corresponding object and conversation. At the end of Situate, cozied objects will be returned each participant.
See completed cozies and project updates on the BLOG.
MEDIA:
Upon your arrival at Situate, you will be asked to sign a form, agreeing to the release of media documentation of the project.
Documentation may be used on this project website, and encorporated into the MFA thesis support paper that accompanies the exhibition.
Participating in Situate, you will be asked to pose for a photograph with your object, before and after the cozying process. All conversations will also be audio recorded.
